Steve Barford was the mastermind behind the #nationwideconvoy concept and with the power of social media the concept really took off.
On spotting the idea online, Lee Davy from Davy Transport Services with the assistance of friends such as Dom Smyth, Phil Davis and Kevin Woodward from ASHBROOK, decided to create the M60 charity convoy in order to show their support.
With the full blessing of the British Transport Police, the result was thousands of wagons from all over England forming convoys around the quiet motorway system to show their support for the nation’s food banks and key workers, in this time of national need.
Over 2,000 trucks took part making it quite a spectacle to see, along with raising over £10,000; a considerable amount higher than the original target of £1,000.
The M60 convoy saw 450 trucks take part and raised £8,500 of the total figure.
Dom, commenting for the M60 organisers, was delighted with the outcome of both the overall event and the M60 convoy stating ‘we never expected the convoy to take off in such a way and we’re absolutely thrilled with the amount that the initiative has managed to raise. Unfortunately, food banks have seen an unprecedented rise in use since the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak and we felt we needed to offer our support.’
ASHBROOK lorries featured in the M60 charity convoy, sparkling in the May sunshine and proudly displaying their banners of thanks to the nation’s key workers, including truck drivers, who have kept the country going in our time of need.
