Facilities at the vibrant Macclesfield Rugby Union Club (MRUC) are excellent, ensuring that hundreds of players from the top-class first team to the youth teams train in the best possible environment.  This is only possible through regular investment in the pitch, buildings, and equipment.  During the off-season, is the perfect time to address the maintenance and development of these areas.

Andy Appleyard, General Manager, identified 3 main groundwork projects to undertake this summer. He was quickly on the phone to plant hire experts, and keen supporters of MRUC, ASHBROOK.

James Ashbrook, MD, comments, ‘it’s a pleasure to support MRUC with their projects and we were happy to supply a 3t excavator and a 3t dumper in the form of a Cat 302.7 next-gen digger and a JCB 3T.2.  Both items are newest iterations of these machines and work efficiently and effectively on small to medium-sized jobs such as this.’

‘The first project identified was the installation of a new technical area on the main pitch.  This is where all the reserve players and coaches stand during a match. In the past it’s been a muddy bog, now it’s lovely astro, allowing better communication with the field and a more professional match day experience,’ continues Andy.

‘The second project was pitch repairs and drainage support.  With the amount of rainfall we’ve had this year, it was a clear priority in order to keep the pitches playable for as long as possible.’

The final project for these machines was the installation of new posts on Pitch 2, creating a better playing experience for our teams. This element was funded by the late Jerry Howarth who was a huge benefactor for the club and an honorary Life Member.  We are very grateful for the contribution he made to MRUC throughout the years and it’s great to see part of his legacy in action on Pitch 2.’

‘We’re very appreciative of all the support we receive from ASHBROOK without which the expense of these projects would be greater and the timelines for delivery potentially longer’, concludes Andy.
