Amongst those picked for great things was ASHBROOK’s Terrence Rochester who was selected as a finalist in the Plant Technician of the Year- North Category.
After a change of career 3 years ago, Terrence took up an apprenticeship with another plant hire provider and began his on-the-job training alongside studying at Reaseheath College. His drive behind the change was to take up a rewarding career where he could get hands-on with machinery and derive great satisfaction when a mechanical issue was rectified.
During his training, the depot where Terrence worked closed, but fortunately a job was found with ASHBROOK where he could continue to finish his apprenticeship.
‘I love the camaraderie found amongst the engineers here at ASHBROOK. The breadth of plant and access machinery in the fleet is massive and there’s always someone on hand to ask or talk through a problem so that a solution can be found’, says Terrence.
‘A typical day starts with the priorities of the shift being outlined and then we work through our list of jobs. It’s generally a mixture of servicing and items which need fixing, so there’s never a dull moment. We work hard and we have a craic as we go’.
‘I get a real sense of satisfaction from problem-solving and not just following a process, it’s much better than working on a production line. No two days are the same.’
‘I was really surprised and very pleased to be nominated for this award. It shows that hard work pays off; head down, crack on, and praise will come’, concludes Terrence.
James Ashbrook, Managing Director of ASHBROOK, adds, ‘we’re very lucky to have a wealth of talented and hard-working staff so it’s very pleasing to have one of these people recognised on a national stage. We’re really proud of Terrence and see a bright future for him with his positive outlook, skill, and dedication. Well done Terrence!’
