ASHBROOK’s second year as a title sponsor of the HAWKSTONE Park motocross circuit run by the Salop Motor Club (SMC) in Hopton, Shropshire, commenced with the HAWKSTONE International MX – 9th, Feb 2020.
Facing adverse weather conditions delivered by Storm Ciara, which actually started out as a winter storm over the Pacific Northwest of the USA (unofficially named Kade) and intensified as it emerged from crossing the USA and into the North Atlantic, the SMC staff worked incredibly hard to ensure the competition went ahead in a safe and secure manner.
Various media organisations were out in force to cover this challenging, and at times dramatic, event and have published a number of videos and articles that capture the true nature of the demands placed on the riders and the mettle required. Please feel free to browse herewith:
MotoHead – Featuring overall winner Jeffrey Herlings, and Shaun Simpson and Glenn Coldehhoff.
MX Co-Creators – Capturing the very essence of the conditions, and featuring Jeffrey Herlings, Coldenhoff and Kullas, Simpson, Steven Clarke, Thomas Covington and many others.
DIRTBIKE RIDER – With extended coverage of the days’ races and clips of one or two of the less fortunate competitor’s activities. HAWKSTONE International 2020 report and rider quotes available on the same page.
During the weeks running up to HAWKSTONE International, ASHBROOK supplied and supported SMC with plant machinery and site essentials allowing the SMC volunteers to prepare the track and surrounding publically accessible spaces – a total of 120 acres, ensuring the best possible racing conditions and clear and safe visitor and vendor areas.
ASHBROOK also supplied 6 Generac VB9 tower lights providing 20Lux illumination over 3,600msq whilst the VB9’s built-in generators provided 240w power for a host of amenities.
A CAT D6K2 dozer was used to grade the track and peak the jumps, a CAT 313F excavator for levelling, grading and removing windblown debris. Two John Deere 6130R tractors using chain harrows improved the surface of the tack, whilst a JCB 540-140 telehandler was deployed for moving and positioning tower lights, portacabins and official stations.
A huge thank you from ASHBROOK to all the organisers and volunteers at SMC, the competitors and their teams who so gallantly fought the elements to lay on a spectacular competition, and to our customers, associates, families, friends and our own staff for battling all and sundry to attend and support the event and make HAWKSTONE 2020 a truly memorable experience. See you next year!
NOTE: ASHBROOK will be supporting the SMC throughout the year and assisting with a further 8 racing events. For more details about future events at HAWKSTONE please visit their website.
